This hidden gem of a park, located in Georgetown, Texas, just north of Austin, is a great place to walk dogs, or take a leisurely stroll among nature’s beauty. If you’re looking for a great day trip with the family, this park has lots of room to explore, along with nice picnic areas under tall pecan trees and even a fishing pier.
History of Berry Springs Park
The 300 acres that make up Berry Springs Park were once the homestead of John Berry, an early-day pioneer who settled the wooded property in 1846. Remains of the old homestead, along with a family cemetery are located within the park, along with some antique farming equipment. Rear Admiral William Mann Jr. purchased the land in 1924 and planted 1,000 heritage pecan trees along the creek bottom. Many of those trees still stand today and are among the largest anywhere in Central Texas. Admiral Mann and his family owned the land for 77 years, before it became Berry Springs Park in 2005.
Trails and Camping in Berry Springs Park
Berry Springs Park is a natural park/preserve, where nature is the key element. You’ll find just over three miles of well-maintained, easy , mostly level hiking trails in Berry Springs Park.
There are sites for RV as well as primitive camping at Berry Springs Park. The primitive sites are walk-in, and located along a spring fed creek. Other than some traffic noise from nearby IH-35, which tends to diminish late at night, the park feels as if it’s miles away from the city. Dogs are welcome in Berry Springs Park, just make sure to keep them on a leash and to pick up after them. There are poop bag dispensers located at the trailheads.
The Spring Fed Pond at Berry Springs Park
Along with the majestic heritage pecan trees, one of the park’s main features is the large spring-fed pond, which features a fishing pier. Fishing is catch-and-release. Be sure to first check with the park staff as to what kind of gear is allowed.
Donkeys at Berry Springs Park
There are two resident donkeys living at Berry Springs Park. The park host requests that you don’t feed Lil’ Bob or Pedro, but you can admire them outside their “Casa Del Burros”.

Berry Springs Park is located at 1801 C.R. 152, Georgetown, Texas. Reservations for camping or for renting party pavilions can be made by calling (512) 943-1920.
